Mrs Wogan's Most Singular Amour
Series: Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series
Rated: PG
Pairing: Louisa/Diana

femslash100. I haven't even finished Desolation Island yet so I apologise if this contradicts eventual canon. Also, it's short.
Louisa had always preferred the company of men, and recognised the same general preference in Mrs Villiers. Their likeness was often commented upon with amusement and admiration: the same blue eyes, black hair, graceful, free manners, and questionable pasts, of these beauties of the old Empire's extremities: British India and America.
Louisa liked Diana like no other woman, and felt some modicum of her affection returned. Diana was much like a man – less inclined to honest flattery, but fearless, witty and quite without hypocrisy. She went to bed as lightly as Louisa, as naturally: and her form was well-acquianted with love's joys and excitements, and she could delight, on occasion, also on the pleasure of others.
Louisa saw other women, those few peripheral flowers of their world, shrink before Diana; heard the hatred in their lowered voices directed towards Diana, if not Louisa herself. They quivered, the silly geese, before this force of nature.
(Sometimes Louisa wished they had been nothing but gay wives without husbands; that they could share a house and entertain as they wished; but that freedom was reserved for greater heiresses than they. Money was the reason she left her coded notes on Diana's bedside table and swore her to secrecy and the delivery of the notes, even as she left her Judas kiss on Diana's lips.)
Louisa had always preferred men, but they were a twelve in a dozen, as easily forgotten as received. There would never be any other woman for her than Diana.
