Summary: Maybe he fights a little nastier afterwards. Maybe there's a vicious edge to his grin that wasn't there before.

It was the boy's stubbornness that made him such an appealing target. That infallible cocky confidence that seemed to say do your worst - I can take it. And that was the part which was at once so infuriating and intriguing: he could. He never broke. He never begged.

He hadn't given in once in all the weeks he'd been held captive. Not the slightest sign of fear or panic had flashed across his eyes as he was surrounded and shot down when he tried to escape. He'd cursed and hissed in pain as the crew exacted their revenge for a thousand humiliating defeats with boots and fists and knives, but there had been no acknowledgment of defeat. Never.

Not even when he's bound and helpless in the captain's cabin, awaiting a fate as certain and dreadful as a dawn execution. Not even when he's shivering under unwelcome touches, gasping and whimpering in pain once more, if for a different reason.

That wasn't to say he didn't struggle. Quite the reverse, he fought like a demon, never stopped fighting back. But in the end he let himself be used and abused and raised an eyebrow afterwards as if to say is that all you've got?

And maybe one day the guards are a little lax, maybe be slips off and goes home. Maybe he shrugs off his ordeal and tells the waiting Lost Boys nothing of the truth.

But maybe he fights a little nastier afterwards. Maybe there's a vicious edge to his grin that wouldn't have been there before as a still-warm hand dangles tantalisingly over a fanged maw and the man it belonged to writhes in agony on the ground below.

Maybe he doesn't enjoy a challenge. But then again, maybe he does.

Oh, I liked this! There is far too little good Peter Pan fic out there. I really liked that this wasn't explicit, but it's easy to imagine what sort of atrocities Hook visited on Peter. And I love that Peter doesn't break, just comes back with his edges a little harder than before.
