Alan Grant isn’t a disagreeable man. He just gets annoyed by a lot of things. Children, for one. Ian Malcolm for another.

He isn’t sure why exactly Dr Malcolm annoys him so much.

Maybe it’s because he dresses in black and leather even though it’s boiling hot, and he just has to look so darn cool in it as well. Alan couldn’t look that cool if someone dunked him in an ice bath.

Maybe it’s because for some reason Ian has to pause every few words. Or maybe it’s because the man is so darn smart. You can’t look cool and be smart. It’s just not possible…it’s just not fair!

Maybe it’s the way that the darker man has been looking at Ellie. Like he wants her and knows that he damn well always gets what he wants. Alan wishes he could be that confident.

Maybe it’s because he’s so tall. Like a giant…like a T-Rex. Alan always wanted to be taller, more imposing…so he could scare off all those annoying children that always seemed to find him so interesting.

Maybe it’s because, while Alan can see the wonder in this park Hammond built, Ian just has to point out every negative…and inside Alan agrees with every word.

And maybe it’s because, buried deep in his subconscious but trying to make itself known, is a strange need for Ian to take notice of him. He knows it’s childish but Ian seems to take notice of everyone but him.

Maybe he wants to get under Dr Malcolm’s skin.
