I hate everything about you

Episode II
Tell me why I still don't like Mondays

“Mr. Lewis, Sir? What are you doing on the ground?“

Jerry! Finally! And too late!

Enter two figures, known as my best buds.

“Parker!“

Within the blink of an eye, Mikey leaps towards me, grabs my arm, pulls me up and supports me. Again I'm staggering; it seems that Mussos's psychic Sith attack is still hard on my constitution.

Honestly, I feel as if Kubiak grilled me.

“Everything cool, Parker?“ The sound of Mikey's voice echoes through the fog surrounding my head. For a short moment, I'm tempted to tell him all about Musso's latest master plan, but her warning is still ringing inside my head. Giving my best friends a no-return ticket into detention, is not what I have in mind.“Not a problem, Mikey,“ I mumble, as I shake him off and hold on to my locker instead. But Mikey wouldn't be my best friend, if he was so easily fooled. “Come on, Parker! What did Musso want from you?“

At first, I consider feeding him an excuse but then I remember that 1.he will see right through it and 2. he will be really pissed. “She gave me detention.“ Mikey bestows a bewildered look on me, and then bursts into a laugh.“That's it? That's the reason why you're looking like a walking corpse? Don't worry, Parker. Jerry and I will handle it. We'll get you out in no time. Come on, Jerry!“
“Certainly, Mr. Randall! See you later, Mr. Lewis!“ - and before I am able to start my protest, they're gone and only a lonely cloud of dust lingers in the hallway. With a sigh, I close my locker and drag myself to History.

At twenty past two, I open the door to the biology lab, also known as “The Gates of Hell – Part II“.
It is empty save for Frank Lemmer, opening a rat cage. A room devoid of human life. His head jerks up, as the door slams shut and a cold smile appears on his face.“You're late, Lewis. Musso won't like this.“

I slouch into a chair and cross my arms before my chest. “Anyway, I'm here, Frank. So, what's up?“
Frank reaches into a box, foraging for a small shovel which he uses to measure rat food. “You feed them, while I prepare the experiment.“

I reluctantly take the shovel with food and bend over the rat cage.“What are you gonna do with them?“

“Do you think, I want to spoil the surprise, Lewis?“ Frank answers. He doesn't look up from the board, he's too busy scribbeling it.
I don't like this. I don't like this at all.

“What are their names?“

Now he does look up, he even turns around, staring at me als if I suggested for him to run for the Democrats.“Their names? What are you talking about?“ “Well, they gotta have names, don't they?“
“Lewis, we're in a lab, not in a petting zoo. They're numbered 0 and 1.“ He sneers and turns back to his beloved board.

I shrug and open the little cage door, push the shovel through, filling the food into the bowls.
The rats immediately scamper to the food and start to eat greedily. I try to pet one of them with my finger as the little bastard turns around and ...

“OUCH!“

Lemmer spins around. “What is it now, Lewis? Are you too daft to feed a couple of rats?“ Frustrated, I shut the cage and give Lemmer my Killing Stare TM. He conters it with a triumphant smile and takes another note:“Show first signs of aggressive behaviour upon feeding.“ “Great, what next? I think, I'll go to the nurse, before I catch some contagious disesase.“ I look at him as if he was a giant germ himself. “Dear Musso would not want this, would she? I could die or even worse: Miss some classes.“ With these wise words, I want to disappear but before I take my first two steps, a hand grabs my arm and pulls me back. I can only marvel at Lemmer's secret strength; he holds my arm like a vise. He pulls my injured hand close and peers at the wound. “Did you know, Lewis, that a rat's teeth can penetrate human skin right to the bones? You were lucky.“

And then, before I'm able to react, he licks away the blood running down my wrist. For a moment everything turns to slo-mo, even the shiver running through my body. I stare at him with a mixture of disgust, amazement and horror.

Oh. My. God.

Frank Lemmer, rumored to be the only vampire walking around without SPF 2000+.

I think I'm gonna be sick.

“What the...“

“Saliva disinfects, Lewis. Skipped another biology lesson, didn't we? Back to work. Now!“ Speaking these words, he turns around, lets go of my hand and strides towards the rat cage. Confused and disgusted I try to concentrate on my work, until finally, hours later, I hear the sharp ring of the five o'clock bell.

“I'm done!“

I rush to the door and from the corner of my eye, I see Lemmer sink back into the teachers chair with a grin like a Cheshire cat on his face.

“I'll see you tomorrow, Lewis.“
