Trucy simply could not concentrate.
Usually, she was right into her schoolwork: volunteering answers, helping her classmates and finishing her bookwork before the others. She was an overall model student.
But today, she just couldn’t concentrate. She doodled all over her books, unintentionally ignored her friends, even completely missed teachers calling her name.
“Trucy, are you okay?” Her friend asked.
“Huh? Oh, um, yeah. I’m just a bit… distracted today. Eh he.” Trucy replied, dragged from her thoughts.
“You sure?”
“Uh-huh! I’m fine. So, did you see that Gavinners special last night?”
“Yeah, I did! Man, I can’t believe they broke up! I mean…”
Trucy pretended to listen to her friend ramble as she slipped back into her thoughts.
I wonder if she’s thinking about me… Ema…
--
All Ema could do was concentrate.
She’d never been this caught up in her work before. Usually, she would find some way to dump it on those working under her, or simply procrastinate and gorge on snacks.
She hardly even noticed the glimmerous fop waltz into her office.
“Aah, fraulein. Good to see you hard at work.”
Encounters like this usually left Ema furious and the fop covered in Snackoos. But not today.
“Hello, Klavier.” She said back, not looking up from her computer screen.
“May I ask what I’ve done to not incur your wrath?”
“I’m working, Klavier.”
“That in itself is odd.”
“What the hell do you want?!”
“That’s the Fraulein Detective I know! I’m just here to drop off some paperwork.” Klavier placed the manilla folder on the detective’s desk.
“Great. Thanks.” Ema muttered, before Klavier left the office.
Ema’s mind, though seemingly absorbed in her work, still wandered elsewhere.
Trucy… Are you thinking about me?
--
“Hello?” Trucy answered her phone as school ended for the day.
“Trucy? It’s Ema.” The familiar voice came through the receiver.
“Ema! Hi! I was going to call you, but I didn’t know if you were still at work.”
“I just got the rest of the day off. Do you want to meet me at café?”
Trucy smiled. Finally. She could see her…
“Sure! I’ll be right there.”
