The muse bit me. Fortunately, I'm trying to write a longer fic for pre-Yuletide challenges, so you may not be burdened with another one of these for a bit, as it'll have to be >1000 words.
Title: Acting Substitute
Author: Val Mora
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: The Great Escape
Pairing: Danny/Willie
Disclaimer: all to MGM/UA.
A 100-word drabble because it wanted to be written.
Acting Substitute
Danny knows this much: Willie had a girl before the war, a gorgeous blonde with red lips and a bright smile (this is what Danny says, not Willie; some standards of beauty are the same the world over). She was killed last year when a building collapsed on top of her.
And Willie’s been a long, long time in Europe, with no end of being in German camps in sight and no women nearby. The result is understandable.
Danny just hopes that someday Willie will see him as himself, rather than as a substitute for the girl buried in London.
