Sick of me yet?

Title: Consumed
Author: [livejournal.com profile] valmora
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: The Great Escape, the movie
Pairing: Danny/Willie. Again.
Disclaimer: All to MGM/UA and the guy who wrote the book. ‘Cause, you know, Charles Bronson and John Leyton’s characters were probably not really doing all this.
Summary: post-war. Danny discovers that he isn’t the only one with war scars.
Notes: Willie exhibits mild - very mild - symptoms of what we now call "post-traumatic stress disorder." It was known as 'shell-shocked' in those days. I have, due to creative license, chosen not to portray the fact that PTSD is a problem that rarely gets better on its own without counseling. It also often hitches a ride with other problems, such as depression or substance abuse.

I don't think I've ever seen The Great Escape, but you caught my attention by mentioning Charles Bronson. *g* I googled the other actor and the movie for general plot purposes and then went through and read your fics. The others were too short for me to get a good sense of them but this one was lovely.

You caught the atmosphere of post-war letdown and finding everything changed or gone. Danny tracking down Willie and almost recreating the stark claustrophobic companionship of the POW camp even though they're free now. The misunderstanding and surprise of the kiss and then the ending. *g*

I really enjoyed this one. You might want to consider writing slightly longer fics since this isn't a fandom you can depend on your readers knowing all the background.

He caught my attention when I first saw the movie, too. XD

*happily waves little Charles Bronson Fan flag*

I just have the terrible habit of writing very short pieces.

LOL! I didn't mean you had to write epics. Even the added length of this piece, which is still very short, allowed you to develop a more intense situation.

You're not alone. Everybody seems to have a natural story length. I write PWPs of 1000 to 2500 words in The Sentinel, but I try to create an interesting setup and there is much gnashing of teeth and wailing when I realize the story is getting loooooonger. Argh. Noooo! *g*
