*waves to everybody* Hiya!

Looking ahead, I've been a member of this community for quite some time but don't think I ever posted. Now, however, I hope to find somebody here who'll listen to me ranting about how my head almost exploded after discovering (and watching) some videotapes from 1993 in our attic with "The New Adventures of Speed Racer" on them.

Speed has the worst crush on Racer X!!! I need to share this or I'll go nuts!!

Back then, when I was eleven, I wanted Speed to get it on with Trixie. Watching the show now, I realized Trixie doesn't have much of a function. More, she isn't even Speed's girlfriend, as opposed to the Japanese classics (where she didn't have a function either and spent most of the time bitching around being jealous because there's no way she could have been Speed's girlfriend with all the chicks he went nuts over).

So, last week, for the first time, I realized how all the action in the show is pretty much Speed stumbling into some mean!plot, Speed shortly angsting over mean!plot, Speed contacting Racer X to help with mean!plot or Racer X showing up to save Speed from mean!plot, Speed angsting occasionally over whether Racer X is You-Know-Who, Speed and Racer X kicking ass to overcome mean!plot, Speed showing no interest in girls whatsoever.

Among all this, I found some truly dreamy stuff (I watched the German dub):

Episode #10:
Speed: *in a tone of total admiration, bearing the matching facial expression, running towards and looking up at Racer X* "Racer X! What are you doing here?"
Me: Gawwww!!!!! Lovely!!!!!

Episode #3: [Speed doing his first transeuropean race and suffering from romantic hero worship]
Speed: *totally dreamy* "That's Dirk Swaggert. The best race driver in the world!"
Racer X: [later] "Speed, Dirk's the spy I was telling you about!"
Speed: [just got to know Racer X] "That's Dirk Swaggert! It can't be!"
Racer X: "Then why did he shoot your tires?"
Speed: "I dunno... Maybe he thought it was your car."
Me: Yeah. Uh-huh. Sure.

Episode #11:
Racer X: "Thanks for saving me."
Speed: "Hey, I can't count the times you saved me. Finally I've been able to do something for you."
Me: *sigh*

Episode #8: [guy kidnaps Speed and brings him to the year 2078 where he's supposed to compete with mutants in a battle race]
Guy: *laughs in evil, delightful way* "Speed Racer... my little star."
Me: *has a sudden image of Speed being forced to give blowjobs to evil guy and ugly mutants in abused!pleasure!boy!fashion*

And finally:
Episode #9: [Speed and Racer X end up in a jungle millions of years in the past and must fight dinosaurs]
Racer X: "First, we'll find shelter."
Speed: "And then what? Shall we play Adam and Eve?"
Me: No comment.

Guh, for college? Mean.

I consulted my Speed Racer #1 from NOW comics again... where it says all the Racer sons were adopted. Which I think is shit and they never explained why or who the parents might be BUT... if I were to write S/R slash and for some reason it ends up as a series about true love... there's a possible solution.

Nah, I'm sitting here alternating between comment-writing and slash-writing. :D It's Wayne/Crane stuff from my multi-chaptered fic.

Homework for high school actually. It's kind of shocking how much I got - four books for English (two papers), 100 terms for history (about 4 sentences each), and three or four papers for biology. WTF.

OK, I feel ancient now... have I really been reading slash for six years? And I wouldn't have thought with you sounding so eloquent and all. I went to a Highschool in Wisconsin for half a year when I was 16 and remember hating that I had to memorize 200 dates in American History... It was so... stupid. I'd rather have written an essay and actually engaged my brain.

Thinking about the solution, the ONE son who doesn't look anything like Pops or Mom Racer is actually Speed (well, in the Japanese version it's also Spridle who'll never grow up to be as handsome as his brothers). Wrong hair color, wrong eye color.

I hate the idea of him not being a true Racer. Though, I could actually make up a fucked-up familiy history for Mom Racer (who doesn't exist in the new version) where Speed's her sister's son and the sister commited suicide because her New England society parents didn't like her getting pregnant without the proper husband and wanted to make her give the child away. And Mom Racer, who was away with Pops and Kate and Martin Holt (Episode #5) in the rainforest researching made her parents not say anything and pay for all of Pop's inventions. Which is why in the new version, the Racers can afford to live on a private island on the coast of California.

Gawd. I've thought about this way too much, wouldn't you say?

Hey, getting your facts down to get prepped for a fic isn't a bad thing! You've thought about this a fair bit, which is more than I can say for most of my fics, where I just sort of write whatever comes to mind and cross my fingers to hope it doesn't come out all screwy compared to my references.

I think I've gotten lucky.

Ahaaaa!!!! LOL. I think it wasn't bad. Puns are cool.

You've thought about this a fair bit

My brain made me. I didn't want to. The question remains: Who is Speed's father then? I'd like it to be Pop's brother, but how high are the chances of that ever happening (though I can already see the bitch!grandmother ranting about how they can't lose another daughter to that not-so-well-off family)? And what about Rex? Did he know? Or was he at boarding school or something when his parents were off in the jungle?

Hm, it would probably make for good dialogue; Speed could be saying something along the lines that he doesn't want to now whether Rex knew or not because if he did, not saying anything would mean he wouldn't have prevented them from sliding into an incestous relationship, which is quite obviously wrong; if he didn't know though, that'd undermine Rex's feelings in Speed's opinion. And then Rex could answer that he always suspected but never checked (would've been easy as a secret agent) because he didn't want to know either - first because as a guy without a family he wanted to think of them as intact as possible, later because he was afraid his suspicions had been wrong all along and they were having incest. And then the thing ends with Speed saying, "You know, Racer X... I never thought I'd say this but I'm glad you're not my brother." End. Fin. Aus. Haha.
