Author Notes: I started researching a 'Hart's War' fic three years ago, after I first saw the movie. I just didn't do anything with it until now (unbelievable!). I have the first two lines I wrote, and I actually had Hart's first name wrong! At the time I had no idea of the significance of the date the story opens (December 16, 1944) or the place the unlucky Thomas Hart is traveling (St. Vith, Belgium), and neither of those things is really explained in the movie. Historically, this was the start of the final German counter-offensive at the end of World War II, a little thing known as the Battle of the Bulge. I wanted to finish this by the 4th of July, but I had to settle for July 6 instead.
More Notes: Here's a quote about the director of 'Hart's War,' Gregory Hoblit: "Greg has a unique understanding of male bonding and conflict, and this is about as male a film as you could make." Hey, FatJoey has a unique understanding of male bonding himself, as you'll find out if you read on!
